The team at Dresden Dental does not want you to become a statistic. As much as 75% of the population may suffer from periodontal disease. This is also known as gum disease. When plaque builds up on your teeth, the gums become irritated and inflamed and this can lead to periodontal disease. It is the largest (and most preventable) cause of tooth loss.
Lack of dental hygiene can result in a build-up of bacteria which turns into plaque. Plaque hardens to become tartar. This substance is tough and hard and can be difficult to remove. Toxins given off by the plaque softens the enamel and can cause cavities. The gums become irritated and begin to pull away from the surface of the tooth. Teeth can begin to lose supporting bone structure and can eventually loosen. If left untreated, tooth loss can result.

- Receding gum line

If you notice any of these symptoms, notify the dentist immediately, especially if they are on-going and consistent. These warning signs are not only an indication of risks for more severe health problems, they can also be symptoms of other problems that may not have been diagnosed.
